Chiropractic adjustments are not for the "cracking" of bones or for the relieving of pain,
but rather for the restoration of life in the tissue so that healing might occur.

Three Pillars of Health
Three Pillars of Health
Perhaps the most amazing liquid on the planet. In fact about seventy percent of the planet is covered in water and that same seventy percent is how much should be in you. A healthy body is anywhere from 70-90% water depending on age. Now many people continue to say that you don’t really need that much but I am here to let you know once and for all that you do.
The reason you need all this liquid is because from a cellular perspective just about every chemical reaction in the body takes place in a watery environment. But remember that water also dilutes and helps to remove toxins. Water is 80% of blood composition, 70% of a muscle is water, and even 10% of bones are water. If that isn’t enough the very center of your spinal discs are water. Now what is interesting about this is the fact that water is incompressible. It cannot be compressed under any circumstances. Not a bad choice for the part of the body that does all of the load bearing if you ask me. Appropriate water consumption is half you body weight in ounces per day. A 200 pound person needs 100 ounces per day.
It sounds simple enough and if you are reading this you are doing it right now. But did you know that your breath is the doorway into your consciousness. If you said yes that wouldn’t surprise me at all.
With all of the “mind/body” stuff that is constantly being thrown around today it is hard to miss the importance of breath. What most people don’t know or aren’t aware of is the how and why part of the equation. True, breathing is something we do from the first moment of life and one of the last things you will ever do. However, how you use your breath makes all the difference. Let’s start with what you already know. When frustrated we sigh. When tired we yawn and when angry we a big deep breath. So you already know more than you may have thought, but did you know that you can breath properly or improperly resulting in very different mental states.
Deep breathing is what I am talking about. When you deep breath you automatically slow your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, and aid your digestive process. Now for the consciousness part. Deep breathing causes you to return to a state of ease as opposed to dis-ease. The hyphen is on purpose because dis-ease is exactly what precedes disease. The state of ease I am referring to is your para-sympathetic nervous system. This is the part that relaxes you and causes you to move into a state of healing both physically, mentally, and emotionally. Its opposite is the sympathetic nervous system which, you may remember from health class, is the fight or flight part of the nervous system. This is where many people find themselves and is the perfect place to create disease if experienced for prolonged periods of time. To correct this imbalance just start deep breathing by taking five minutes every day to focus on relaxing deep breaths when you know you won’t be interrupted. Good luck with that part parents. Remember most bathroom doors have locks.
Probably the most common conversations I have with people each day is about posture. Your posture is a direct reflection of how you feel and your overall level of health. People who are feeling joyful and ready to engage the day are upright and smiling. People capable of play and activity are similarly poised.
Since we know the core to posture is your core then it should be effortless for you to see the critical importance of good spinal health. The rest of your skeleton attaches to the spine. Inside the bony framework of the spinal column is the spinal cord. Quite literally the first and truest example of the mind body connection.
If this part of you is not able to posture properly then no part of you can be expected to function optimally. I started this paragraph off describing how someone who is happy and joyful might carry themselves but don’t forget that the nervous system is a two way street. The mind relies on the body to inform it of its status as it relates to the world from both an internal and external standpoint.
Knowing this we can literally change how we think by changing how we carry ourselves. Posture then is one more doorway into consciousness and ultimately greater and greater levels of health.
This is what it means to be a Maximum Expression of Life and one more reason why Chiropractic should be a part of every families regular wellness plan.
